Introducing Merrimac Chiropractor, Dr. Kathy Fowler

Who would have thought that falling down an entire flight of stairs would be a good thing, but to me it was life altering.  It was my senior year of high school, my mind was made up and so was my career path, or so I thought. I had plans to attend a five year masters program which would  fulfill my dream of being a physical therapist, when everything came crashing down.  I fell head over heels down 12 stairs, landing in a heap at the bottom of my parents stair case.  In the days and weeks following the accident I began to notice my neck getting stiffer, my headaches became daily and the ringing in my ears was constant.  It was my mother who suggested I go see chiropractor, Dr. Len Gauthier.  It was from that first adjustment that I knew I had found something so special, that I needed to be part of it.  I immediately changed my college plans and my path for life.

In the fall of 1986 I drove to Davenport Iowa to begin my chiropractic education. Palmer Chiropractic College has a very challenging curriculum.  I was surprised at the intensity of study it took to become a DC.  The instructors and the pace of the studies was tough . But as I have found out, now being in practice for almost 19 years, the depth of our studies it something  I have been able to lean on many times.

The technique I use to adjust is Activator.  It is a mechanical adjusting device.  It is a technique that is very precise, and very gentle.  It eliminates the "cracking" most people associated with a manual adjustment.  I became proficient in this method 19 years ago after passing additional testing.  My patients love how this technique feels. For more information on this technique go to www.activator.com.

I  have been married for 19 years and together we have two children.  We love to hike, ski, golf, and travel.  We also enjoy being in the White Mountains as much as possible. I have sat on the Board of Coporrators for 15 years at our local bank.  This new direction allows me to use a totally different part of my brain and learn many new things.

I believe strongly in exercise both for it's physical as well as it's mental benefits.  I rise several days a week at 5AM to go the gym so I can be home in the evenings with my family. I have the advantage of not only being married to a great guy, but a great chiropractor.  I get adjusted weekly by him to keep myself in shape for my busy schedule. Our family strongly believes in preventative health care.  Along with adjustments we use a variety of vitamins and homeopathic remedies to keep sickness at bay.

Dr. Kathy Asks some important questions of interest to Merrimac residents - Chiropractor Merrimac Dr. Kathy Asks...

Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in subluxation. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
Is chiropractic safe?
What do you consider safe? Chiropractic care is safer than driving your car on the streets of Merrimac, getting back surgery, taking aspirin and even safer than taking a shower in your own home! Compared with things we accept as safe, chiropractic care is even safer. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
